Carol Johnssen freut sich eine Ausstellung mit aktuellen Werken aus Colette´s Serie „La Vie en Rose & Domestic Bliss“ zu zeigen.
Die Arbeiten beinhalten die Teilnahme von Colette Mannequin Skulpturen und dokumentieren eine Zeit in der fast schon religiös die Farbe pink getragen wurde. Gezeigt werden ebenfalls neuere Dokumente der „Story of my Life“, ein Ritual das sie seit den 70ern beibehält. ( Es beinhaltet Installationen/ Performances, welche ihr Leben beschreiben wie auch Performances die in bekannten Museen und Galerien stattfanden, aber auch solche die für unorthodoxere Gegebenheiten kreiert wurden, um eine Vielzahl unterschiedlicher Zuschauer anzuziehen: auf Straßen, in Einkaufsfenstern, Clubs und sogar ihrer Wohnung.)
Von Anfang an hat sich Colette unterschiedlicher Verkleidungen bedient, wobei sie ihre Verkörperung oft mit dem Ort wechselte. 1978 stellte sie ihren eigenen Tod in der Installationsperformances „the Last Stitch“ im Downtown Whitney dar und war als Colette´s Managerin Justine, welche Colette´s Vision und Bilder vermarktet wiederauferstanden. 1984 wurde Colette von der Stadt Berlin eingeladen und nahm die Gestalt der Mata Hari and the Stolen Potatoes an, während ihres Bayrischen Abenteuers (1986-91) wurde sie zu Countess Reichenbach. Als sie Anfang der 90er wieder nach New York zurückkehrte regierte sie im House of Olympia, welches sich seit 9/11 zum Maison Lumiere umgewandelt hat.
Neuere Ausstellungen welche ihre Werke neben anderen bekannten Zeitgenossen zeigen sind: La Robe bei der Unesco Paris und Clothesline im Santa Fe´s Art Institute New Mexico. Colette wurde vor kurzem als Reverse Pop in der Pop/Reverse Pop Ausstellung im „Haus der Kultur“, Bothal Deutschland, gezeigt, zusammen mit Pop Art Künstlern wie Warhol, Rauschenberg, Lichtenstein, Rosenquist, etc.
Ebenfalls fand man ihre Kunst in der Downtown Show, die von der Grey Art Gallery in NYC ins Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh wanderte. Juni wurde sie im Frauen Museum Bonn auf der „Ladies of the Night“ Ausstellung gezeigt. Und erst vor kurzem hat sie eine Einzelausstellung „La Vie en Rose I“ in Pablo´s Birthday NYC abgehalten.
Seit ihrer letzten Ausstellung in der Galeie Carol Johnssen 2001 waren öffentliche Objekte Teil der Installation ihres Studios Maison Lumiere (Home Office) auf der Montreal Biennale 2002.
Die Kreation „The Bedroom“ für die HGPR Gruppe in Ginza, Tokyo 2003-2004 zeigte ein Environment aus Stoffen worin eingebettet neue Bilder, Skulpturen und Kleidung waren.
2004 zeigte Colette ihre Ausstellung „Domestic Bliss“ in New York wie auch den „Colette Look“ der von den Fenstern von Rosenthal´s Show Room Madison Avenue aus gesehen werden konnte.
Bis heute transformiert sie die Subjekte von Auftragsportraits und wird später in diesem Jahr eine Einzelausstellung Colettisierter „Transforming Portraits“ in der Vivian Horan Gallery NYC abhalten.
COLETTE “Lumiere’s Dinner at Eight- La Vie en Rose II”

Carol Johnssen is proud to present an exhibition of current works by Colette from the series „La Vie en Rose & Domestic Bliss”.
These works involve the participation of Colette Mannequin sculptures and document a period of religiously wearing the color pink. On view will also be recent records from the story of my life, a ritual she has been performing since the seventies until now. (These document installation/ performances, which document her life and performances held in well known museums and galleries as well as those created for more unorthodox venues in order to reach multi and varied audiences; the streets, shop windows, clubs and her own home.)

From the beginning of her career, Colette has assumed different guises, often changing her persona with her locale. In 1978 the artist staged her own death in an installation performance at the Downtown Whitney entitled, the Last Stitch, and resurrected as Justine who posed as entrepreneur and marketed Colette’s vision and image. In 1984 Colette was invited by the city of Berlin she took the persona of Mata Hari and the Stolen Potatoes and during her Bavarian Adventure (1986-91) the Countess Reichenbach emerged. When she returned to new York as her base in the early 90’s she reigned in the House of Olympia, now transformed into Maison Lumiere since 9/11.
Recent exhibitions which have included her works among other well known peers, are; La Robe at Unesco Paris and Clothesline at Sante Fe’s Art Institute New Mexico. Colette was recently featured as Reverse Pop-in the Pop/Reverse Pop exhibition at the “Haus der Kultur”, Brothal Germany, along with pop artists Warhol, Rauschenberg, Lichenstein, Rosenquist etc.
Her art was also in the Downtown Show, which opened at the Grey Art Gallery in NYC and now installed at the Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh Museum. In June, she was presented in “Sexhandel - Mythen, Alltag, Gewalt” at the Frauen Museum Bonn, Germany.
Colette has just dismantled a solo exhibition “La Vie en Rose” I at Pablo’s Birthday in New York City.
Since her last show at Galerie Carol Johnssen 2001 public projects have included the installation of her studio Maison Lumiere (Home Office) in the Montreal Biennale 2002.
The creation of ’The Bedroom’ for the HGPR Group in Ginza, Tokio 2003-2004– a fabric environment inbedded with new paintings, sculptures, clothes….
In New York 2004 Colette presented her exhibition ‘Domestic Bliss’ and the ‘Colette Look’ which could be seen from the windows of Rosenthal’s Madison Avenue show room .
Up until now she continues to transform her subjects for her commissioned portraits and is preparing for a solo show of Colettesized “Transformation Portraits” at Vivian Horan Gallery in NYC. later this year.
