DING YI
Zur Eröffnung der Ausstellung am Dienstag, 15. September 2026 von 18:00 bis 20:15 Uhr, sind Sie herzlich eingeladen.
The practice of Ding Yi encompasses painting, sculpture, spatial installation and architecture. He works primarily with “+”and its variant “x” as formal visual signals, above and against the political and social allegories typical of painting in China. He chose this sign in the second half of the 80s as a synonym of structure, rationality and of a pictorial expressiveness that reflects the essence of things.
We will be showing the book: The Road To Heaven 2024
While Shen Fan’s work from the mid- to late 1990s was structured around a strict rhythm, his more recent pieces are much freer. The areas of color are more fluid than the linear constructions found in most of his earlier art, and there is a greater sense of movement within the work. His output since 2000 takes up an idea the artist has pursued since 1994: that his works can be interpreted as an abstraction of calligraphy. During the 1990s, a movement emerged in China that engaged with calligraphy in order to both explore and critique the tradition. Shen Fan assigns numbers to his works to avoid any attempt to associate his paintings with representational imagery.
The artist Qin Yifeng perhaps found an equilibrium between the need to continuously repeat something stimulating and the need to create something new. Creativity in his work brings him an enduring sense of harmony and peace. In his works, the straight line and the curved line cross. In doing this in a stable way he brings together control, reasonableness, detachment and artistic freedom. He has already moved from an intensive method of producing his works to one where the process is much freer, requiring less concentration and more flow.
